Battens Solicitors is delighted to confirm that their Senior Associate Solicitor Georgina Bacon has renewed her role of Visiting Fellowship at Bournemouth University.
Georgina has been working over the past 3 years with Tilia Lenz, Senior Lecturer Social Work - Member of the BU Social Work Community, CPD Framework Lead for Social Sciences. She has contributed in developing the Law in Social Work practice unit and has shared her experience and expertise with BA and MA students. The unit aims to give an introduction to the core legislation and discusses the ethical challenges in legal decision making. Georgina's position as a solicitor in Family Courts, representing children and parents alike, offers a unique insight into the different roles and responsibilities in safeguarding children under the Children Act 1989.
In addition to this, Georgina has offered her expertise towards developing a 'Skills day' for students that focusses on Domestic Abuse and Violence. Over the past 3 years, the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 has shaped professional engagement with victims and survivors and has given responsibilities to Social Workers in Local Authorities to support families. Georgina's insights into the practical application of this law have been integral to the learning of students and in raising awareness of the shift in Social Policy towards victim support.
Tilia Lenz said, “I am pleased to be able to continue to collaborate with Georgina to ensure that Law in Social Work practice is as engaging and applicable to students to form their professional identity, navigate challenging ethical dilemmas and develop legal literacy.”
Georgina Bacon added, “I am proud of the work we have already achieved on the course for the students and can’t wait to continue supporting the great training being provided to students at Bournemouth University.”
